FULL BIOGRAPHY Sergio Myers is an award-winning filmmaker, television creator, producer, director, and author based in South Carolina. His career spans documentary films, unscripted television, independent features, branded content, and live production. He created and executive produced MTV’s Sorority Life, worked as a producer and writer on E! True Hollywood Story, and directed and produced documentaries including Heaven’s Gate: The Untold Story and Invisible Scars. His work has taken him from American college campuses to Australia’s Northern Territory, with a continuing interest in the people, communities, and choices behind a story. Across his career, Myers has won more than 80 awards, and his films have earned numerous official selections at film festivals. Born in Charleston and raised in rural South Carolina, Myers built a career far beyond the place where it began. He studied communications at Boise State University, where his interests in journalism, music, and visual storytelling became hands-on work. He created and hosted a music-video program, In Tha Mixx, took on production and advertising responsibilities, and contributed writing to the Boise Weekly. Those early projects brought together skills that would remain central to his work: finding an idea, getting access, gathering collaborators, and turning limited resources into something an audience could watch. An early opportunity with E! Entertainment connected his college experience to professional television. He moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and founded 7 Ponies Productions. During the same period, he began the project that became his first feature documentary, Heaven’s Gate: The Untold Story. Working with surviving members and archival material following the group’s 1997 deaths, he sought to examine the lives and beliefs behind the headlines. The film received the EBE Award for Best Documentary and was presented at the Margaret Mead Film Festival. At E! True Hollywood Story, Myers worked on documentary accounts of public figures whose familiar names often concealed complicated lives. His credits include work on episodes about Linda Blair, Bo Derek, Redd Foxx, and the Kennedys, with roles varying by episode. Research, interviewing, writing, and production became part of a larger discipline: building an account that could hold an audience’s attention while dealing with the complexity of real people. He also worked on programs for the Style Network, including Homes with Style, Macy’s Passport, and Vogue Takes Miami. His interviewing experience includes personally conducting conversations with filmmaker Oliver Stone and Pierre Salinger, President John F. Kennedy’s former White House press secretary, for E! True Hollywood Story. For Style Network’s coverage of the 1999 Macy’s Passport charity event, Myers interviewed Sharon Stone, Cindy Crawford, and fashion designers. Myers brought that documentary background into unscripted television with Sorority Life. As the show’s creator and executive producer, he helped bring the day-to-day experiences of college sorority members to MTV. The series premiered in 2002 and ultimately ran for three seasons, followed by the companion series Fraternity Life and related specials. Its premise placed friendship, belonging, group identity, and the pressures of young adulthood inside an ongoing television narrative. The work established a recognizable part of his career while connecting his interests in access, subcultures, and character-driven storytelling. Further television work expanded both his responsibilities and his range of subjects. He served as director, showrunner and executive producer on Spike TV’s 10 Things Every Guy Should Experience, a sports-themed reality competition series centered on the Super Bowl, NBA events, Kentucky Derby, Indianapolis 500 and WrestleMania. His credits also include Tripped Out: The Ultimate Guy Vacation and Crash Test. These productions required the coordination of crews, talent, locations, field production, and post-production, often within demanding schedules. International production became another major part of his work. Myers served as executive producer and showrunner on Croc Catchers NT for National Geographic Australia, following the crocodile-management team in the Northern Territory, with responsibilities also spanning directing and camera work. In New Zealand, his work included Meet the Frockers, the home-renovation competition series The Block NZ, and documentary production with the Royal New Zealand Ballet on The Secret Lives of Dancers. Back in the United States, he worked as a supervising story producer and camera operator on King of the Road for Viceland with Thrasher Magazine, contributing to production preparation, field shoots, and postproduction oversight of story and editing, an executive producer and showrunner on Car vs. America for Fusion, and a producer on National Geographic’s The Watch. Across these projects, his responsibilities connected what happened in the field with the story ultimately shaped for the screen. Documentary filmmaking remained central to Myers’ creative life. Invisible Scars, made with Johnna Janis, follows her journey as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Myers’ work on the project extended over several years. The film received Best Documentary recognition at the 2015 Bare Bones International Film & Music Festival. Its focus on a person confronting her past brought a different set of demands from television competition or adventure: patience, sustained attention, and care in the portrayal of deeply personal experience. His independent narrative work includes Becoming Pony Boi, Jordon Saffron: Taste This!, The Zombinator, the two L.A. Love Story short films, and the supernatural thriller 223 Wick, which he directed and executive produced. In his mockumentary and genre projects, Myers explored improvisation and small-team filmmaking alongside more structured production. Music also became part of that experimentation through his Pony Boi work and projects that crossed between performance and film. His mockumentary Becoming Pony Boi, for which he performed the songs, won Best Soundtrack at the 2009 Beloit International Film Festival. His creative interests have included painting as well as writing and music. Through Surging Media Group, Myers applied his production background to advertising and branded content. His work has included projects for brands such as Black & Decker, FoodSaver, Haan, Copper Compression, and Miracle of Aloe. He has worked across creative development, scripting, casting, directing, camera work, and post-production oversight. His advertising experience adds a commercial dimension to his storytelling: understanding an audience’s questions, making a product’s benefits visible, and giving viewers a clear reason to respond. Myers is also the author of Illegal Because America: Modern Observations on Laws That Refuse to Die, a humorous exploration of unusual American laws and the circumstances behind them. The book extends his interest in human behavior and institutions into the written word. Now based in the Charleston area, Myers continues to work in production, including commercial shoots, camera operation, and live events. His current sports work includes South Carolina Stingrays game-day camera coverage and Mud Racing Now’s 2026 season in South Carolina and Georgia, capturing ground-level trackside racing action and driver interviews for the livestream. Myers Unscripted brings these chapters together as a home for his work, writing, and speaking inquiries. He is available for nationwide and virtual conversations, guest lectures, workshops, and interviews about building a creative career, developing unscripted stories, leading productions, and finding the human connection inside an idea. His perspective comes from doing the work across many different formats—and continuing to find new ways to tell a story. Speaking & media inquiries: sergiomyers@me.com
